For Prospective Authors

New Classics Study Guides is a group of Christian authors who produce a vetted collection of high quality books friendly to Christian homeschoolers. If you are an author with a book you’d like us to consider, please make sure the book meets the following criteria:

  • The novel is written by a Bible-believing Christian.
  • The novel is geared for a middle-grade (not YA) audience.
  • The novel has a strong plot and memorable characters, i.e. a “new classic.”

If you are on board with the criteria listed above, and if we decide to include your book, then we would ask you to:

  1. Offer free on our website a homeschool-friendly, four- to six-week study guide to accompany your novel. It should be aimed for a third- to seventh-grade audience. We can coach you on writing a study guide. While it is offered free on the New Classics site, you are free to sell it elsewhere, or do whatever you want with it. Study Guide example >
  2. Take at least one spot per year on our New Classics monthly newsletter calendar to share an article, a freebie, or anything of interest to homeschooling parents. You can share your new releases and short stories. The newsletter has over 900 subscribers from the homeschool world, and is growing. This is a great opportunity to market yourself and your books! 3. Donate a book for our big “Back to School Book Bonanza” giveaway one time a year (August) and share the giveaway with your own subscribers. The idea is that we authors promote each other in our email newsletters once a year, broadening our own audiences.
  4. Keep our New Classics group of authors in mind when outside promo opportunities come up, and let the group know about them. We have a Facebook private group.
  5. Keep in mind that this is a group of authors helping each other and reaching out to homeschooling families. New Classics is not a business making money off any of our activities. (In fact, our minimal business costs are supported by a couple of our members.)

If all this looks intriguing, please make your book available for my evaluation at phylliswheeler@phylliswheeler.com

Note that we are building a curated collection of books tailored for homeschooling needs, as veteran homeschoolers ourselves. Not every quality Christian middle grade novel fits our vision.  So please realize that, like many books evaluated over the past five years, your book may not be chosen.
